Wim Van den Boeck

A genuine Physicist and a European Patent Attorney, active in the field of IP since 2002. 

Wim has experience in fundamental and applied research and has a very broad IP experience, which allows him to efficiently and effectively advise clients in different industry sectors, depending on their organization, size and IP needs. 
For instance, he has successfully been involved in IP as

  • Inventor
  • IP Officer for a international research center in microelectronics (IMEC, BE); handling IP in a semi-academic, joint research context;
  • IP consultant in private practice, advising single inventors, SME’s and multinationals;
  • IP Lead EMEA for a US HQ multinational company; having grown a trans-european IP mindset within the R&D and business departments, and dealing with all aspects of IP, including patent litigation and oppositions;
  • Advisor for EPI members in matters of professional conduct and business organization.

Wim’s strengths comprise his willingness to fully understand inventors and customers (including their business models) and prosecute and defend their intellectual property before the patent offices globally; his broad background allowing him to advise on suitable IP protection strategies; his relatively large expertise in oppositions before the EPO and his relatively large expertise in US patent law. He has substantial experience in IP enforcement activities at tradeshows.
He is also EPI Council Member for BE and Vice Chairman of the EPI Professional Conduct Committee.
He joined IPLodge in March 2020.

Qualifications

Wim is MSc in Physics and a Qualified European Patent Attorney. 
He attended numerous trainings in IP throughout his career, e.g. US patent agent training (PRG Patent Bar training course (US)) and CEIPI’s “Patent Litigation in Europe” course (FR, University of Strasbourg).

Languages

Wim’s primary professional language is English, next to his native language Dutch/Flemish. French and Italian are his secondary professional languages, and he has basic notions of German.
